Yes! You can apply for a new card while we are closed. This will be a temporary card, which you can use for all of our databases for research immediately (note the six-digit temporary barcode you are given, for use accessing databases) while the library is closed. eMedia, including Libby, cloudLibrary and Hoopla, cannot be used with a temporary card account.

General information about Library Cards and temporary cards is found on our website here: https://www.cityofpasadena.net/library/library-cards/

To get your temporary card:

  1. First complete our online self-registration form: https://pasadena.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/search/registration/$N/SYMWS/true?
  2. Once you have completed and submitted the form, the system will return a temporary barcode. Please make a note of it.
  3. Your self-registered card will allow you to place holds on materials, and use our remotely-accessible databases.
  4. Temporary cards expire 30 days after they are issued, and are not renewable..
  5. Come into any open Pasadena library and get a full regular library card, which is good for three years and can be used for all physical materials, and eResources, including eMedia.  You will be asked to show photo ID and proof of your address in California to get a full card.
  6. When your full regular library card expires, contact us to renew it. We will review your account information, so if your address, phone or email needs to be updated, we will do that when we renew your account.
